Garfield was right... Monday's suck. At least they do in my life. I don't know what it is, but the kids are always more trying on Mondays. Maybe it's the coming off the weekend with Daddy headed back to work? I don't know, but yesterday was definitely one of THOSE days.
I decided to take the kids school supply shopping, thinking it would be fun picking out their school supplies. WRONG!Instead I spent the time picking them out myself and trying to wrangle all the 3 of the older kids to stay with me. I think they need leashes sometimes. Ugh! I was one of those women you feel sorry for, or despise, who is calling for her kids the entire time at the store because they won't behave. Is it too much to ask for them to just stay near the cart? Yesterday, I guess it was.
Oh, and if I get one of those GIANT carts, you know, the ones that hold 2 bigger kids as well? Not enough room for the three of them, so first they fight over who gets to sit in it. Then I get to listen to the one walking complain about how tired they are from walking (pul-lease!). And then of course I get the "He's touching me!" or "He's on MY side!" from the ones in the cart. Samantha's the only one who is quietly sitting, observing the craziness. It's probably a great show for her. LOL.
I have GOT to come up with a good way to keep the kids in line at the store. Any ideas? I watched this show about this family with 16 kids (the Duggars) on Discovery Channel. The kids are amazingly well behaved and everyone is so polite. Maybe it was just for the cameras, but I don't think so. I think that if they were really bad, I'm SURE they would have put that on TV, right? Anyway, I'd love to hear her secrets.
So, back to my bad Monday. Afterwards I took the kids to the park (actually, we went to Sears next to see if they had any more uniforms in for Beka... no size 7's... STILL!) and were there are about 45 minutes. Rebekah ended up in time-out for pushing Ty, and then when I gave then their ten minute warning she complained about how she needed more time than that because she hadn't had any fun yet. :P
Got home, fed the kids, put Samantha down for her nap & the boys down for theirs. I ate my lunch and just as I'm finishing up, Sam wakes up. 35 minute nap, were usually she sleeps 2 hours. Ugh.
And did I mention it was 100 degrees yesterday with no A/C?
The afternoon went okay, but then about 4:30 as I'm washing the dishes, the water in the faucet slows to trickle... and then stops all together. It's been a dry summer and we are on a well, so I assumed that we were low on water (which has never happened to us, but happens to our inlaws all the time). I couldn't get ahold of Joel to ask him what I should do (I have no idea) because he was at a job where they have no cell service.
At about 6 my neighbor comes home and calls me, "Do you have water?" he asked. He shares our well with us. "Nope," I said. So he came up to check it out. I guess the pump regulator went out. He went to Loews to get a new one. Well, just after I got all the kids in bed (Joel was still not home), he showed up with the part and had to turn off our power to fix it. And of course, the kids freaked out. Their noise woke up Samantha. So there I am, sitting in the living room for an hour in the semi-darkness with the kids.
It took me about 45 minutes to get them BACK in bed after he was done (we DO have water again! YEAH!). Just as I finished getting Samatha back to sleep at 9 o'clock, Joel walked in the door. What a day.
And if you read all that, you deserve an award. LOL.
Despite all that, I have so much to be thankful for. I am so thankful that the well was not running dry, but instead just needed a cheap part. So thankful. I'm thankful that it's only supposed to be 89 today (yesterday the forecast for today was supposed to be 99) and there is a 50% chance of rain. We so need rain. I'm thankful that all my kids are healthy and, although they can be trying, happy. I'm thankful for this beautiful house God has provided for us. God has blessed us so richly, I guess I can handle a Monday every now and then. ;)
Today is our last free movie day of the summer: March of the Penguins.
