First day of school today. I was eager for school to start again basically because the kids were getting bored of my daily routine of not going anywhere. I've really enjoyed our relaxed, slow-paced summer, but the kids were tired of it around mid-July. Now that school has started again I remember why I enjoyed not having to go anywhere so much. To school in the morning to drop the kids off, back in to pick Luke up at noon, and then back at 3 to get Beka. Exhausting. It's only day one and I'm beat. LOL. I'm so happy that on most days Grandma picks Luke up and saves me a trip.
Lucas had his first day of kindergarten. When I picked him up he said he had fun but that "they talked too much." I guess they didn't play enough for his liking. He said he wasn't able to finish what he was working on in centers. Oh, and he also said, "We didn't learn to read today." He's very eager to learn to read like his sister does, so I think we're going to start working on it at home a bit as well. I explained to him that it's only the first day and that it will take a few days to settle in.
Last night when we picked out his clothes, he was not at all happy about having to wear a uniform. I thought he understood that, as his sister has been wearing a uniform to school for 2 years now. In preschool, which is at the same school he is attending now, he didn't have to wear a uniform, except on chapel days. Now he has to wear one every day and a special one on chapel days (a button-up shirt with a vest). I know he'll get used to it. I love it myself. It not only saves money, but there is no fight over clothes in the morning. Fantastic!
I had every intention of starting Tyler in preschool this year, to the extent of having him all signed up with school supplies bought. Up until 2 weeks ago I had the fondest hopes of having him potty trained in time. Not a chance. So at this point, Tyler will be staying home for another year. Oh well.
Rebekah is now in 2nd grade! SECOND GRADE! My goodness. How can I have a kid in 2nd grade? She was so excited to be starting school this morning that she was up and dressed, including shoes, at 6 a.m. I heard, "Is it time to leave for school?" over a dozen times this morning. I'm very glad she was so happy to be going back to school. It certainly makes things easier on a mother's heart. She really enjoyed her first day, just like I figured she would. Rebekah is quite the social butterfly. She said her favorite thing today was getting to draw and color a picture of herself for a project they're working on. Oh, and she earned seven "I've Been Caught Being Good" tickets. I guess they earn them when they're behaving and the tickets are put in a drawing that they do every Thursday for prizes.
