I know I say this every birthday that my kids' have, but how can Tyler be turning four this year? Someone once told me that the life of the stay-at-home mom is full of the longest days but the shortest years. How true!
So Ty is four today. He's an all-around boy's boy. He loves trucks, trains, airplanes and anything else with wheels. He loves Star Wars, video games, lightsabers, Legos. He runs wherever he's headed, makes a lot of noise & pretends to be a hero fighting "the bad guys." He has a beautiful smile & a laugh that makes the listener smile just to hear it.
But this is my boy who refuses to grow up. Still sucking his thumb on a regular basis, not that I mind really. From a mom who sucked her thumb until she was 10, I'm not really worried. I know he'll give it up eventually. And if he doesn't, his wife can deal with it. ;) And don't give me that "bucked-teeth" nonsense. I have the straightest teeth in my family and never had braces! And if he does need braces, I know God will provide. Like I said, no worries.
Oh, and he's still not potty trained. Not even close! Like I said, the boy who does not want to grow up. My feeling on the subject is that he is so easy-going that he can't be troubled to bothered with it. Not that we haven't tried nearly every approach. I know he'll do it eventually, but this mom is getting a little tired of changing a 4-year-old's diaper!! Dad says that's it with diapers for him now that he's four, but we'll see about that since I'm the one who is home with him all day. ;) I'm hoping for inspiration this weekend so that Joel can shoulder a little bit of the clean-up. As they say, "This too shall pass," and all to quickly I'm sure. I love my son, thumb, diapers and all!
He's the one who is always stopping me during the day, saying, "Mom...."
"Yes?" I reply, waiting. And waiting. Tyler has a look on his face, like he doesn't know exactly what to say now that he has my attention.
"I love you," he finally comes up with, smiling.
"I love you, too, Ty," I reply.
"You're the best mom in the world," he says.
"And you're the best Ty in the world," is always my reply to that.
And he is.
Happy Birthday, Ty!
