My kids love to play with Legos, especially my boys. I must admit, I'm glad they like them so much. It's a very creative toy with limitless possibilities. Although they tend to be rather expensive, don't usually go on sale & aren't very often available for resale, with the amount of usage my children get out of them they are completely worth the cost. It helps that we were seeded with Joel's collection from when he was a kid. They certainly don't go out of style.
Lucas is especially gifted when it comes to Lego designs. It's not necessary for him to follow the directions that come with a kit to make an amazing creation (although he is able to do that too); he comes up with incredible designs all on his own, like the one above. He makes something new every day without fail and is completely engrossed by it.
That said, Legos are a plague in my house. They are everywhere. Containment seems near impossible. I don't usually let the kids dump them out (like above) and if I do, they dump them out on a sheet. Even when they are not dumped out, I still find them everywhere. For example, I just did a quick walk through my house and found Legosin each of the children's' rooms, their bathroom, a few in the hallway, the kitchen floor, in my truck, under the couch in the living room and even in my bedroom. They just seem to migrate, scatter and multiply. I can't tell you how many I've vacuumed up (which I hate doing because I figure I paid for them so I hate to throw them away). And anyone who has ever stepped on a Lego barefooted knows how painful it can be.
One of my ideas for a containment solution is a Lego sandbox. Basically it would just be a shallow Lego box that would make Legos easier to sort through without having to spill them out on the floor. Currently the Legos are stored in that large "attractive" barrel that is in the top right corner of the photo above.
Do you have a solution for Lego containment that allows for easy play as well? I would love to hear it! There might even be a small gift involved if your solution is something I could implement for frugal price.
Oh and to those who have emailed to ask about me & my family due to my blogging absence, thanks for you kind thoughts! We are all fine & well... just been incredibly busy.
