I picked up Samantha from her class at church and she handed me this little craft that they had made to illustrate the lesson. Being the good mother that I am, I like to ask my children what they learned at church each time we go, so I asked Sam about her project.
"That side is the Happy Face," she said when I showed her the smiling side of her project.
"That side is the Melanie Face," she said when I showed her the frowny side.
Melanie face? Melanie face? That's not one I have heard before, so I of course asked for further explanation, thinking that maybe there was something more profound to this preschool lesson than I thought at first.
"What's a Melanie face, Sam?" I asked to clarify.
"A Melanie face, like when you eat melons and your face gets all sour," she explained.
Okay...
It took me the entire drive home pondering this to realize what she meant. Sour face... Melanie face... melons.... sour.... LEMONS!
"Sam, did you mean lemon face? Because lemons are sour?" I asked her when we arrived home.
"Yes, Mom, lemelaine face," she said.
Just so we're clear.
